How to get rid of Fleas and Ticks
I am very embarrassed to
tell you that I have just had an infestation of fleas and they have been a
nightmare to get rid of – much worse than I would have ever imagined! I am told that the problem is particularly
bad at the moment due to the weather being muggy and dampish. So I have done a lot of research on the
internet and want to pass this information onto you – because it is not
necessarily caused by what you think it would be! But knowing me by now you
would have suspected as much wouldn’t you!
What you have to look at
is why it is happening to you and what you have done to attract it – this must
be your first port of call otherwise the infestation won’t go. I have had dogs for over 30 years and this
has never happened before so it must be telling me something now. Then the
fleas started to attack and bite me and I knew they were attacking me and I had
to clear the reason why. So if you have an infestation it would be best to book
an appointment with me to clear this for you as I am now an expert! And then the clear up will be easy and not
stressful.
My story
Firstly I didn’t recognise
that my dogs had fleas because I have never had them before. We even took Monty to the vets to have his anal
glands suppressed because we thought it was that – poor thing! Then suddenly I saw a black speck on Monty
and it ran and then I realised what it was.
Our first port of call was a pet shop and we bought Frontline and a
spray – neither worked and the problem got worse. We then went to the vet and got Advocate and
a toxic spray. Advocate seems to kill
the fleas on them and is supposed to kill anything else within 4 hours but we
didn’t find this happened for us. We
found eggs and newly hatched fleas the next day!
I then went onto the
internet and looked at forums and started to put everything into practice –
this advice is given later on stating whether it worked for us or not. I kept spraying and hoovering and it was just
the same – and I couldn’t clean my settee so I seemed to be infected – even my
leggings had fleas!!
Then I realised that I was
being shown something as fleas are considered to be entities and I had
attracted them for a reason. So I
started using my clearing techniques that I use for behaviour asking why and
healing the reasons. Fleas are attracted
to negative energy and I also realised that were attacking me. Also the constant cleaning, hoovering and washing
was really getting on my nerves and I was starting to cry and feel exhausted. Also I felt that I was crawling with stuff
all the time and couldn’t stop itching!!
So using my techniques I cleared all the reasons and thanked my dogs for
allowing them to be used to show me what to do.
The first thing I
recommend is that you clear the energy in your house and ask for positive
energy to come in. The best way to do
this is to use a Sage wand as this eliminates nasty energy. Go into each room and ask that the energy is
transformed to positive energy and keep doing this until the fleas have gone.
Go onto the internet if
you are interested and research in animal terms what a Tick and a Flea
represent, although I do give some interesting websites for information below.
Fleas – fleas can represent an unwanted dark entity that is attracted to
negative energy so perhaps you need to follow the instructions given previously
to clear your house. It can also
represent that you are not looking after youself or your environment properly.
There are some more interesting definitions on this website http://www.wildspeak.com/animalenergies/flea.html. However, none of these rang
true to me so I tuned in and found that as I run programs of punishment and
suffering this was an ideal opportunity for me to beat myself up as I felt
guilty that my dogs were suffering and I couldn’t get rid of it.
Ticks – ticks can represent that somebody is sucking the life out of you. So
if your dog has ticks it could be a time to look at the people in your life and
how they are treating you. For more
information this is a very good website http://www.auntyflo.com/magic/tick.
How to get rid of Ticks and Fleas
Ticks – Advocate is the spot on treatment
that you use monthly if you want to do the vet route. I use a Tick homeopathic
remedy which I get from Ainsworths pharmacy.
To begin with I give it to my dogs once a day for a week, then every
other day for a week and then weekly. In
the summer months I do up the dose to 2 a week.
Since I have been doing this they both have been tick free.
There are lots of suggestions
for removing Ticks but the best way is a little device that has a slot in it
that you get from pet shops. You slide
the slot over the Tick’s head and then wind it round and the Tick is pulled out
completely. Other methods could leave
the legs to be left in and cause a problem.
Remember to check yourself as well and you can use the same device if
you have picked one up. It is important
to do this as a Tick can then cause Lyme’s disease which is very serious in
humans.
Fleas - Getting rid of the fleas is hard
work as the flea cycle is a minimum of three weeks. So you need to hoover, hoover and then hoover
again! You need to change your hoover
bag regularly as well. Hoover the
settees, beds and anything else that could hide fleas and their eggs. I hoovered my settees twice a day as they
seemed to be breeding there and then sticking in the buttons in the leather
settees and then crawled into my leggings and kaftan! I hoovered and washed my curtains –
especially as my dogs sleep behind them!
Move everything as the eggs can jump up quite high and can then drop on
your dogs. Make sure you hoover your car
and wash any bedding you have in the their as well.
Wash everything and keep
washing. Wash pet beds daily, your pjs,
dressing gown, ugg boots, slippers, ordinary bedding or anything else you can
think off. Wash your clothes daily as I found some fleas in leggings that I
wore for two days and they were in my kaftan that I wore nightly. Wash the
floors – I put a little bit of bleach in the water which is also supposed to
kill fleas. I put a sheet over my
settees so I wasn’t sitting in anything that was hatching! Wash your skirting
boards and even the bottom of your shoes.
Wash bath mats and rugs. Wash toys – wash everything you can lay your
hands on and keep washing until it has gone.
You can buy an ultra violet device to kill the fleas on your bed.
Wash your pet as often as
you can and then use a flea comb to go through the hair. I used this flea comb at least four times a
day because it also takes out the eggs.
You can get an electric one if you want to kill the fleas with an
electric shock!! You can’t wash your pet for about 72 hours after their
treatment (check the instructions for what you are using). I didn’t find flea shampoos to be very
effective and I used Head and Shoulders but use what your vet recommends. Again, I suggest you buy from the vet and not
pet shops as I found their products to be ineffective.
Toxic Route
I bought many products
from pet shops but they didn’t work so if you are going to go down this route
you need the following:
1.
Advocate: which is the
spot on treatment and this needs to be applied once a month. It kills the fleas that are already on the
pet and then will kill the fleas after about 4 hours after they jump on. The other good thing is that they make the
fleas sterile so they can lay eggs
2.
Flea pill: this I feel is
better because it is not toxic and taken orally. I found this worked the best of all the
products I tried
3.
The only spray we found
that worked was called RIP Fleas and I had to buy it from the vets. It is toxic so spray with the windows open
and don’t let your pet near the area until you have hoovered several hours
later. Try and wear a mask.
Spray
it everywhere including skirting boards, beds, floors, carpets, settees and
anywhere else a flea or an egg may land and then drop on your pet. WARNING: the spray makes the wood/tile floors
very slippery and it can be dangerous so please be careful and warn visitors.
Non-toxic Route
I tried many homeopathy
remedies that we mentioned on forums but none worked for my dogs – or they made
it slightly better but didn’t get rid of them.
So I contacted Ainsworths and bought the remedy called Flea which I
would highly recommend. You give your
pet the remedy twice daily for a week and then daily for a week until you are
down to one a week. It took a couple of weeks to get into the system so you
will need some other method as a back up to begin with. I test my dogs to see how many they need a
week – this is a good reason to attend one of my courses on how to dowse or
muscle test for answers!!
Homeopathy: Flea remedy
(as stated above)
Cider vinegar in the
water: this didn’t help for me but it may help for you
Head and shoulders
shampoo: this is recommended and I felt it did help and that it was more
effective than flea shampoo
Salt in the carpet: this
is supposed to dehydrate eggs so I would recommend that you do this daily and
then hoover up 24 hours later
Avon Skin So Soft: I had
high hopes of this product because I have used it before myself to protect
against mozzie bites but it wasn’t that effective but good to give it a go!
Crystal: It is a good idea
to put a crystal in the water that is programmed to get rid of fleas. If you feel your dog may swallow the crystal
then put the water you are going to use in their bowl in a jug and immerse the
crystal in it for a few hours. You could
also attach a crystal to your pet’s collar.
A quartz or citrine crystal is the best but if you want to use an
existing crystal go to my chapter on crystals and learn how to program it for
what you want.
Diaguard® Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth Natural
Protector 2kg: this is a clay type of substance that appears to kill anything
including parasites. So you rub this
into your dogs and this will kill eggs and fleas. Brush it into your carpet, your bed and your
settees and everywhere else you need to clean.
Leave it and then hoover it up.
You can give this to your pet in it’s food and it will kill parasites –
and it is a good idea if you take it as you most probably have parasites if you
are close to your animal and they lick you!
THIS IS WHAT I REALLY RECOMMEND
TO USE
